Planning is GREAT!

██ DAY 3 █████████████████████████

So probably goes without saying but I am enjoying the planning process. Because I am a novice game designer I have always just sorta winged it, I do think there is an art to winging it, but I doubt very many successful or fun games are made by doing so. The last game I created “Between two worlds – Family Day” I mostly winged it. It was for a game jam and then like all my projects it ballooned in to something way outside of the original scope that was in my head and while turned into something people who play it do like, it’s 100% a mess… lol

So far I have already on day three weeded out ideas that I can see being problems and most likely wouldn’t be fun mechanics in the game. They sound good, but then playing the idea in my head over and over I can sorta tell it wouldn’t be fun. I have a few ideas I want to test and build out, but I do like that I have already weeded things out, instead of adding ideas.

My focus is coming up with a solid plan and game design document and sticking to that as close as possible. I hope to have the finished document in the next few days and next week I can start working on developing these mechanics inside of a testing environment.

Going to be planning the next day or so and hopefully I’ll have a solid game design document and then I can start tearing apart the game jam game and start building 🙂
