More time to work

More time to work

I’ve found more time recently to work on my game. It’s been a struggle since the end of February which is ironic because thats right around the time I made the production calendar to put over my desk. I’ve been still marking off days, but with little to no forward progress on development.

I thought about it a lot and I just realized that what I need is a plan that will keep me honest, while also being able to be creative. So I’m doing weekly sprints with goals at the end, that all build into a bigger goal and time table. My calendar was supposed to keep me on track and it did somewhat. When I hit the halfway point to have the demo out in June I realize that I didn’t have much time left, so it has kinda lit a fire under me.

I don’t believe I will be able to be in Next Fest in October, I’m most likely going to push until 2027. But I’ve decided to put a demo out for a few weeks outside of Next fest to sorta see what engagement looks like and glean any feedback I can during this time.

I have been planning out the levels though and I’m almost finishing with planning for the demo. Before the plan was just to release what I did for the game jam as a demo, but that seemed lazy. Plus I’ve really updated the art style into something I really like now, it has much more depth and movement then it did previously. That being said the art was a part that was sorta rock solid and now I have to go back and update this. It’s not a huge deal because I needed to make most of it still anyhow, but just something new that is added to the list. The new art is a tad more involved to create.

I’ve been planning inside of Obsidian with a sorta development map that is also a check box of what needs to be done, so I can clearly see what I have left to do.

But a solid plan and way to track my work in small chucks is 100% what I need, it’s felt honestly kinda overwhelming when I just see the project as this huge thing I need to get done, when it’s in smaller much more manageble chunks it doesn’t seem as bad.
