██ DAY 6 █████████████████████████
Made some really great progress on the game today, I was able to implement a parallax system based on where the mouse cursor is. I really wanted more movement and juice in the game, you know “feel” because as an itch.io game jam game it was ok, but for something I’m going sell to people, it just needed much more… much much more.
The parallax system is easy to do enough normally because it’s created when a character walks left to right and depending on your set up, sometimes it’s done automatically depending on the depth of the scene. With my game because it’s static screen and there is no left and right movement, I needed to bind the assets that I wanted to move to the mouse cursors .x position, while not that difficult this made the assets basically move with the cursor, which wouldn’t work. I got frustrated and couldn’t figure it out, then I remembered….. math.

I was able to divided the movement of the mouse so that it moved the pieces slower and I was able to create a parallax effect with that…. I honestly wish I could take you thought my thought process when I made it, I just wanted to make that movement number smaller and I thought division could work 😛 Idk proud of myself…haha.

I also created this neat little platform that Mort (that’s his name now apparently) rides around he was always meant to move left and right, but this way with the flying platform, I think I can introduce him as more of a puzzle element also, sense you are battling his dungeon…. or so it seems…
The game also runs much better then that video, I’m not sure why it’s slowed down.
But otherwise, great progress today, very pleased 🙂
