Month 1 Game – New Ideas

Working on a new game for this month, I’m trying to finish it in a months time, I started first of October and I want to have it out (Whatever it is) by halloween. I’m attempting a PS1 style horror game inside of construct 3 using their new lighting system.

With out a doubt the new lighting system adds a ton to this engine, there are still plenty of rough bits when building a 3D game inside of construct 3 but it does seem to be getting better with every update.

The layout of the small map I drew out in photoshop and then used software to make it architectural plans I can build over, instead of sorta winging it… which is what I normally do.

Lighting that wouldn’t have been possible before in Construct 3

So far I’m very happy with the style of the game and everything. I am using some generated assets, but considering I’m trying to build a game from scratch in 1 month I feel like it is what it is. My biggest issues with game dev are the actual craft of building something on a schedule. The art and design of something I can easily do when I need to, but with AI I can focus on certain aspects and offload other work that I could easily do on a project that is more important.

But in reality a lot of the AI art is just texture work for the environments, I’m still modeling mostly everything myself in Block Bench, which has been fun to learn also.

Building assets for the game

Overall I’m excited about this short project. I’m hoping that I can learn some basics of establishing time tables to get things finished and figure out what works best for me work flow wise. At this point I’ve won 3 game jams in a row and I think some part of that was the ultra tight 48 hour window, so I’m attempting to work with a much bigger window, but still tight concerning game dev.
