So last year I started blogging about NEXIFY, you should go read it… as it turned out to be the ramblings of a madman, maybe a maddev….. To be fair I honestly have every little idea what I’m doing. I believe I know how to make a decent game, I’ve placed in the top three of four different game jams, and considering I’ve only entered about six jams total all that have thousands of combined entries I’d say that’s pretty good. But where to go next is the issue. Blogging about making a game isn’t making a game, also talking about making a game doesn’t equal game being made (unfortunately)… cause I’m very good at both of those.
So the question becomes how to I make it past this part and create a game that is good and put it on Steam and get past all my weird hangups lol. I would imagine this is a portion of game dev a lot of folks struggle with as I have struggled with it for the past year. I have an idea which has been proven to be good, people like it and I’ve had multiple people tell me I should make the game and sell it, so the idea is there. I’ve decided I’m basically going to do a form of what Picasso said to do, just steal.
I’m not going to steal someones ideas, art or game design, I am going to steal their process of getting a game out the door, from down to how they schedule work, outlines, deadlines… etc. I just need to find someone who has had success similar to what I believe I can achieve and see if I can track down their process online through a blog, devlog, videos etc. They my sorta plan is to follow what they did and just apply it to my own game.
Only time will tell if this is a winning formula or not.
